Château Phélan Ségur
The history of the Château goes back to the start of the 19th century when Bernard Phelan, an Irish négociant based in Bordeaux, bought two domaines: le Clos de Gamarey, (purchased in 1805) and the domaine of Ségur de Cabanac (purchased in 1810) which make up the Château Phélan-Ségur. In 1985, Xavier Gardinier bought it from the Dedon family and now he is at its head with his three sons, Thierry, Stéphane and Laurent. The Château Phélan-Ségur vineyard extends over the eastern part of Saint-Estèphe and includes 90 hectares (ha) of vines planted in earth composed of gravel covered in clay sand and a limestone subsoil. The château places particular attention to its élevage, seeking the maximum finesse and elegance. The domaine also makes two second wines, also of Saint Estèphe appellation: Frank Phélan and the Croix Bonis which come from the plots mainly planted in Cabernet-Sauvignon.
