Another gem from Christophe Chapillon in Aragon, imported recently and selling oh so well in the present UK market since the October 2025 when it arrived into England.
There are two main Red grapes in Spain and this is the main one. Well the most readily planted throughout the lands of Spain. Tempranillo. The other grape was featured in last months wine of the month: Garnacha. This wine evokes subtlety and purity of spirit in terms of the winemaking. Some Tempranillo’s can be over extracted and juicy ( I find a great deal of Rioja’s like this) but this is not. Its subtle and cool: Paul and Rémy Tempranillo 2024
Mr Whirly Says:
” Another beautifully made wine from Christophe Chapillon. 100% Tempranillo. Mulberry and plums, refined and elegant. Soft tannins. Not in anyway edgy. This wine has been on French oak for 6 months. Slightly smokey finish. Vegan friendly and sustainable vineyard . A recent client at Crow Farm shop bought one bottle and came back for the other 11 bottles the next day. Must be alright.”

Despite the efforts of so many not to drink wine beyond midnight at the turn of the year I thought I should get us fervent few to express ourselves in a different way! Let’s try some Port! a long lost wine that had almost become extinct in our cellars or under our stairs!
So let’s start with some sensational wine, a port from the turn of the century!
Cockburns 2000. I tried this wine over Christmas ( 2025) and it’s absolutely ready to go now but at the same time could wait for another 10 years! I love this kind of versatility in a wine! It’s full of the most luscious fruits and raisin almonds and it needs time to come into its own after 4-5 hours.

From August 2017 I shall be starting a ” Whirly wine Club” following some interest from customers in the shop.
It will be a simple way of receiving a case of wine from Whirly wines every 6 months, delivered to your door by Dash and the whirly van! I shall look to gear the wines to your taste of course, so with the knowledge I already have about your palates and with a little help from yourselves if we have not already met here in the shop, I will be able to give you 12 carefully chosen bottles of wine that I am confident you will like. I will try to mix the wines up as much as possible so if its in the middle of the summer that you receive your wines I would include some rose, but if in the middle of winter I would gear your wines more to red wines. But of course I shall follow your desires and wishes, so there is not set rule to this.
So how does it work? We would set up a Direct debit for £20 a month, and then at the end of the 6 months you receive a case of wines to that value. You can of course gear your payments to say £30 a month if you would like to receive wines with a slightly higher average price point but this is completely up to you.
I would also offer all Wine club members a 10% discount on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc case of wine they order as well as 10% discount on any future wines tastings they order for 8 or more people here in the shop.
Please email me at simon@whirlywine.co.uk and we can talk this through and get things started.
Thank you for all your support and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
