Mr Whirly says:
“A fabulous array of wine from Mr whirly to include 6 different red varietals in a bottle, so a full range of different expressions of the red grape in the bottle. I have included two wines from Spain from Christophe Chapillon in this mix, new wines that I imported this year in July. So we have their Tempranillo and Garnacha reds, both beautifully easy wines to drink. Then we have 4 Aussie reds that I have always loved and from vineyards that I have been working. with for over 20 years. A Brick Kiln Single vineyard Shiraz 2017, sensational wine, big yes, of course but not sweet and overpowering like some Shiraz’s from Australia. Then we have a Passing Clouds ” Graeme’s Blend”, 2020, which is a blend of Shiraz and Cabernet ( try asking the French to do this, unheard of, not allowed!). This is one of my favourite wines from Australia, discovered in 2000 when I was out there for a year travelling and working in the vineyards and in a winery in the Eden Valley, South Australia. Then the last two wines are from another sensational small vineyard and winery in Western Australia, so 2000 miles west of Eden valley, across the desert. Then south to the Great Southern region where the Southern ocean meets the Indian ocean and you have a really cool climate region based around Mount Barker. From 3 drops winery we have their soft and alluring 100% Cabernet Franc ( a Loire grape, think Chinon and Saumur) and their 100% Shiraz which is another example of Shiraz ( the grape Australians kind go hang their red hat on) but so different from the Brick Kiln. Cool climate expression, not so big in terms of fruit intensity and alcohol.
I suggest these wines for you for your Christmas festivities of 2025. They are a wonderful array of red wines, all expressing themselves beautifully in 2025. A little treat for you all over the festive season, go on, you deserve it.”
